Heavy crash in warm up forces Silva to retire from Estoril race with hip pain

 In MotoGP, News

Iván Silva had a Grand Prix to forget. A complicated qualifying and mainly a heavy crash in the warmup meant that Ivan wasn’t able to finish the race due to pain in his hip.

Despite the lack of fortune the Avintia Blusens team continues working without losing motivation and looks forward to the next race in Le Mans in two weeks’ time.

22 Iván Silva: “It’s truly been a very hard weeked. Yesterday we had a very big moment and today in the warmup a crash which marred me physically. Nevertheless, we’ve been working with the new bike and although until now the results are not what we expected, I think it has good potential. Here in Estoril, with me not knowing the track and the early state of the bike, it’s all been very complicated. My riding has not been at the usual level and in the race the pain finally meant the way back to the box to rest as much as possible and be 100% for the test tomorrow. I apologize to the team and the sponsors, because I’m the last one to think of retiring from a race, but I think today it was the best to be able to continue working tomorrow.”

Raúl Romero (Manager MotoGP): “It’s hasn’t been a good weekend, but we’re not going to throw in the towel. Iván suffered a lot throughout the whole weekend and he had a very hard crash in the warm up. Tomorrow we’ll have to keep working and do tests which we couldn’t do in the preseason. We will continue testing with the Inmotec and between Ivan and the team it will be decided what to do ahead of Le Mans. Today things didn’t go as we wanted, but there are many races to go and we won’t lose our motivation.”
