Cardus needs to start over after distraction at home race leaves him out of the points
It wasn’t a good weekend for the Argiñano Racing Team. It started out with a lot of motivation and expectations, because the team was working overtime to make a new fairing for the ARG Moto2 bike, some new fibres which were tested to see if the aerodynamics can be improved. But a crash on Saturday ruined that work and for the race Ricky Cardus had to use the original fairing and development, a real handicap on a track like Montmeló with a straight of one kilometer.
Ricky Cardús 19º: “It’s been a difficult weekend for me, I didn’t plan it well and it distracted me and I hope to have learned from it, especially for the races in Spain. There were too many people around and I didn’t have my head where it needed to be. We had a meeting with the team and in Silverstone we’ll start with a clean slate, we’ll establish a strict work schedule and I won’t stray off course.”
Ginés Guirado, sporting director ARG: “It’s been a nightmare race. Ricky lapped very slow, at one point he rode in the ’47s and then he returned to ride in the ’49s, in a group which had this pace and was very comfortable. And the position he ended up in was because others crashed in front of him. Little by little Ricky gets to know the team and vice versa, but he needs to be more aware of his obligations and focus more. And he paid for that like he paid in Qatar. It should be a clean slate now, because we’re still in time to make this a worthy championship. We don’t ask for the win, we want to score points, because otherwise our project will have an expiration date.”
