Vazquez crashes out of podium fight, Martin and Moreno happy despite missing out on points
The Catalunya Grand Prix had started very well for JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse rider Efrén Vázquez. After a great start from the third row of the grid, the Recalde native got away with Maverick Viñales and Louis Rossi, but then the group grew bigger and after a tough battle with Miguel Oliveira the JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse rider ended up in the gravel. Fortunately he escaped injury and now the team knows for sure than in the next races the podium is feasible.
Adrián Martín and Iván Moreno had a race from less to more and made a comeback from far behind to finish the race in 17th and 18th, respectively. Adrián finally finished a weekend without a crash and Iván gained more experience for coming races.
#7 Efrén Vázquez “We did a good race until we were fighting in the “brainless” group and after a pretty big battle I decided it was better to just manage it a bit, firstly the tyres and also a little myself for the end. But then Oliveira arrived and when he almost had taken the position and we were parallel he came towards me, we touched and we ended up on the ground, his teammate and myself. Moto3 and Moto2 are very competitive categories, but you have to be more careful. The good news is that we’ve been on par with Maverick and also here in Montmeló, which is a circuit I don’t like very much. If we take stock, then we are closer than ever.”
#26 Adrián Martín 17º “In the end it wasn’t too bad. We finished the race, it’s been a weekend without crashes and in this regard we made a step forward. I finished 17th, but I was fighting with Moncayo who was on the podium in France and the group had a good pace every lap. We passed each other many times and it was fun. Today my bike didn’t go quite as I would have liked, but in the last lap I was fighting with Iván and McPhee and I could pass them. In general I think it’s been a positive Grand Prix and in Silverstone, where I’ve been sixth last year, we can do well.”
#21 Iván Moreno 18º “I’m very happy, because we made a lot of progress during the weekend and it showed in the race. I think we still have some unfinished business, like the start where I’ve been stuck and if we would have started well, we wouldn’t have had to take so much risk from the beginning to reach the group. I have to thank the team and the sponsors for all the work they did, because without them we wouldn’t be here. Also to the crowd and my family who came here to support me, because it’s been a weekend of ups and downs. And even though I didn’t score points I had a lot of fun during the race.”
