Rosell enjoying Silverstone circuit despite tough learning process
After an exciting weekend at the 8 Hours of Doha in Qatar, where Anthony West and his QERT teammates Nina Prinz and Nasser Al Malki celebrated victory in the Superstock category and where the second QERT team with Elena Rosell, Saeed Al Sulaiti and Sultan Al Kuwari only missed out on success due to a mechanical failure on their Suzuki GSX-R 1000, the QMMF Racing Team returned to the tough challenges of Moto2 racing at the British Grand Prix.
Despite a new engine, West struggled with the same mysterious lack of speed that had hampered his efforts two weeks ago at the Catalunya Grand Prix and finished the first day in 29th position. Teammate Rosell, the only lady in Grand Prix racing, suffered a crash in very windy and difficult conditions and concluded the day in 34th place. Fortunately, she walked away unscathed and is fully fit for final practice on Saturday.

“We had a good time at Qatar and it was definitely something different to ride such a big bike. With the large fuel tank, it didn’t really match the size of my body, but I still managed to put in decent lap times and we were well positioned in the race until we had a mechanical problem.”“Here at the British Grand Prix, we are back in a tougher fight. It was especially hard for me today, because Silverstone is a new track for me and I had to learn it in rainy and windy conditions this morning. The track then started to dry up and I shifted my reference points accordingly. In the afternoon session, things first went quite well, but then we had a problem with the motor and we lost lots of time. When I went out again, the front folded away in only the second corner and I don’t know why, maybe because we didn’t have enough weight on the front. Luckily, neither the bike nor myself suffered any damage, so I look forward to practice tomorrow – I only managed to do five flying laps in dry conditions today and I can’t wait to do more because I really like the track!”
