Vazquez second-fastest on first day, Martin and Moreno gaining confidence on Silverstone track
JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse rider Efrén Vázquez was again one of the fastest riders on the first day of practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Basque rider went fast both in the wet conditions of the morning session as well as in the dry afternoon practice which he finished with the second-fastest laptime of the day. Efrén and his team get a better understanding of the FTR chassis every day and little by little the results show it. Tomorrow the goal will be to also finish ahead in the qualifying to fight for a good result in Sunday’s race.
Teammate Adrián Martín ended the day in 16th, but the most important for him is to be more comfortable on the bike each time and to recover his confidence.
Andalucía JHK T-Shirt LaGlisse rider Iván Moreno settled in 28th position on the first day in England despite a crash in the middle of the session which kept him from improving his laptime. But the Spaniard hopes to improve again tomorrow at a track which is completely new for him.
#7 Efrén Vázquez – 2º – 2’19.445
“Very good, I’m very happy because it’s been a very full day. We had a practice in the wet and one in the dry and in both I felt rather good and I think we rode pretty fast. Little by little it seems we understand the bike better and I think this is the most important. In the wet we tried many things, because we don’t know what the weather will do during the weeekend we had to quickly find a good setup for the wet, plus a bit of confidence. We collected a lot of data and conclusions both in wet and dry and I think this all will help us ahead of the race. Because come rain or shine, we’re on a good way.”
#26 Adrián Martín 16º – 2’21.063
“Step by step I’m improving from the last race and I felt much better with the bike and in general we’re doing a great job. There’s still a little more to come from myself, because I try to push, but then I think of crashing and I hold back. The team is helping me a lot and I need to thank them, because they help me a lot to take off the pressure so I can enjoy riding the bike. Together we’re getting there. Last year I had my best result here and then everything went wrong, but this year I want it to be the opposite, that it marks the turning point for improvement in every race.”
#21 Iván Moreno 28º – 2’23.026
“I’m satisfied, because this morning in the wet we finished very lost and I didn’t feel comfortable at all, without any feeling for the bike in the wet. But in the afternoon in the dry I was within a group in which Adrian was and I felt pretty comfortable. It’s a pity that I’ve been thrown off the bike by a gust of wind. The crash wasn’t serious, but I couldn’t improve my laptimes. But still I’m satisfied, because the track is new for me and I like it a lot. Tomorrow I hope it stays dry and to improve a little more. I still need a bit in the wet, but that can also be improved. Little by little.”
