Cardus getting under high pressure from team after struggling again at Silverstone

 In Moto2, News

Sunday at Silverstone was the best day of the weekend, with less wind and the sun shining for the most of the time. The Moto2 riders who raced first in a slightly different order than usual were also the first to get their warmup session underway. Ricky Cardus didn’t feature in the best positions, but was notable for doing his best laptime of the weekend so far. The team had made small changes to make him feel more comfortable riding the ARG Moto2 bike, although nothing significant to improve the laptime, this is clearly the part the rider has to provide. But it has to be highlighted that he improved his time by over 1.5 seconds in the warmup and later in the race by another 0.5 seconds.

For the race Cardus was riding with an improved bike, but couldn’t take advantage of it. He started from 25th and stayed there at the end of the first lap, in front of him another rider made up ten positions in the first lap. The start is another pending issue for the Spaniard. This track, which happens to be the longest in the championship, with a variety of corners and sections, was a very tough nut to crack for the ARG rider. Again Cardus had a great chance with a motivated team and a bike suited to him to the smallest detail. The ARG team now expects Cardus to change the trend at Assen in 15 days, at Silverstone he only finished one position higher than his worst result of the year, at the first race in Qatar where the team didn’t have nearly the same competitive setup it has now.

Ricky Cardús, 23º: “The team has worked to give me the best; today I rode faster than in the practice and I had a bike which allowed me to be more comfortable. It’s been a new track for me which in the dry I was struggling with until the race. I don’t think we lost the time like in Montmeló, but we couldn’t find the references. The changes for the warm-up and the race went well. Physically I noticed halfway through the race the flu which I had caught in the middle of the week. I admit that I was also a little nervous and I think in the race was where I rode the best.”
