Jordi Torres to replace Toni Elias in Mapfre Aspar Moto2 Team for rest of season
Only a few days after the mutual split with Toni Elias (we reported) the MAPFRE Aspar Moto2 Team has already found a new teammate for reigning 125cc champion Nico Terol. The choice of the Valencian team fell on the Rubí native Jordi Torres. A little over a year ago the Catalan made his debut with the Mapfre Aspar Team at the British Grand Prix (read our exclusive interview here) and went on to compete with the team for the second half of that season. Racing in the Spanish Championship as well as the world championship at the same time, he was finally crowned Spanish Moto2 champion at the end of the season.
The Aspar Team decided to welcome Jordi Torres back as the Spaniard has a lot of experience riding the Suter which he will be using in the world championship, as evidenced by him leading this year’s standings in the CEV Buckler after four rounds.
Unlike last year, the circuits still on the calendar until the end of the season won’t be new anymore for Jordi, who hopes to profit from this fact to bring good results for the Mapfre Aspar Team.
Jordi Torres: “Finally I get another chance to compete in the Moto2 world championship. I think this one is better than the first, because it coincides with all the circuits I got to know last season. I believe that the experience from last year has helped me a lot to grow as a rider, it will help me to take advantage of this new opportunity. I will continue to compete in both championships, I have to work hard to get to grips with using a different brand and type of tyres in each series. I’m completely focused and my goal is none other than to progress gradually. I know that this is a great chance, I will give my best to use it properly.”
