Alberto Moncayo loses Moto3 ride with Aspar Team, will be replaced by Jonas Folger
18-year-old Jonas Folger will be the new rider for the Aspar Moto3 Team from the next round in Indianapolis until the rest of the season, as the team announced today. The German will be replacing Alberto Moncayo, in an effort to turn the so far disappointing season for the Valencian team around again.
Despite winning the last 125cc title with Nico Terol only last year, the team has struggled to find their form this season and get back to their regular podium finishes. So far they only got one podium to their name in the Moto3 class – achieved by Moncayo himself with a second place in the wet race at Le Mans.
Why the team now decided to replace the promising youngster Moncayo, who not only scored his first podium ever and with it the only Top 3 finish for Aspar this year but is also only eight points behind his teammate, instead of much older Hector Faubel who has already reached the age limit for the class and failed to deliver on his pre-season aspirations to fight for the title again, is a bit of a mystery. No further information on where Moncayo will end up for the remaining races has been published at this point.
