Salom “a bit disappointed” to miss out on pole position and qualify fifth

 In Moto3, News

The sun was shining, the asphalt of the Misano World Circuit was dry and clean: all the ingredients were there for a good qualifying session for RW Racing GP. And it was. With Luis Salom on the second row of the grid and Brad Binder on the fifth row the results are very promising for the race.

The third free practice for the GP di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini was not so good. The track was not dry, but also not wet and Luis Salom had a small crash. But the team was able to work on the settings of the bikes to get it ready for the afternoon session.

The weather improved, the sun came out and Luis Salom checked in for the front row again. With twelve minutes to go the Spaniard set himself on top of the time sheets with a lap time of 1.45.013. He managed to improve his lap time, but could not stay on pole-position. He dropped back to fifth on the grid. His ideal lap time, the sum of the best partial times of each of the four sections, would have put Salom on third spot. In the third section of the track he is the fastest rider, with the best partial time.

Luis Salom (5th): “I am a bit disappointed, because I was aiming for pole-position. Or at least the front row. I don’t know exactly why it didn’t work. The positive thing is that I know I can be in front again, fighting for victory. The top 3 is my goal, as always.”

Team manager Johan Stigefelt: “Everything is possible tomorrow. For Luis it is important to earn as much points as possible to get closer to Cortese and Viñales. We are not giving up in the battle for the title. It is still possible. For Brad things are looking good as well. He had an excellent qualifying and should be able to fight for top 10.”
