Steep learning curve and one championship point for David Salom in first MotoGP race
It was a day of surprises for the MotoGP class. Firstly with a cancelled and delayed start which jumbled around the starting grid and then with the problems of Pedrosa in the warmup lap after which he had to start from the last position instead of pole. Fortunately the Avintia Blusens have been spared these misfortunes and could do a normal race.
David Salom finished his first MotoGP race in the points with 15th position. The Spaniard still needs time to adapt to the new category and both the team and himself used this race like a practice session to keep improving in all aspects.
44_David Salom (15º, +1 lap): “It’s been a difficult and complicated weekend. Not being able to ride in the dry during the free practice sessions made the debut even more tricky. Yesterday in qualifying was the first time I tested the bike in the dry and logically I lacked the work preparation. The team was perfect and helped me a lot. We have to improve the setting to get the bike to my liking, but we need a little bit more time. Today we took the race like a practice, but without stopping in the box. I could test a different suspension setting and improve my riding style on the CRT. The tyres and the brakes are the main differences I’ve found to SBK, but I have no doubt that quickly we’ll improve a lot. So in Aragón I hope to be more competitive.”
