Simon crashes out of Australian GP trying to make up positions in final laps
Right from the start it wasn’t a good weekend for the Blusens Avintia Moto2 team. Despite the efforts by the technicians and mechanics of the team, Simón never felt comfortable enough on the bike to be competing for a good result. Even though a couple of changes were made during warm up that seemed like they could be working well in the race, in the end they couldn’t give him the necessary confidence to ride fast.
In the first laps he gained a few positions, closing in on a position in the points, but then over the course of the race Simón run out of steam and fell further back. Unfortunately, 2 laps from the end, he suffered a crash after colliding with another rider when he tried to make up the lost positions.
Julián Simón
It’s been a most difficult weekend for us. The weather conditions really hurt us, especially the wind, and at no moment have we been able to ride confidently. In the race I could advance a couple of positions but I couldn’t keep the pace so lost them again. In the last few laps I tried to claw back a few positions, and with 2 laps to go I wanted to overtake Axel and we ended up in the gravel. It was a race incident. I am very sorry for him and most of all for my team. They’ve worked really hard and we couldn’t finish this GP. I hope in Valencia things will go better and that we can end the year on a high.
