Almost perfect season finale for Simon with strong podium finish after leading most of the race

 In Moto2, News

At last Julián Simón and the Blusens Avintia team got the result they have deserved since the world championship started. The Villacañas rider gave a tremendous performance and he was really close to get his first win in a race only champion Márquez was able to rival him after a legendary comeback. Julián made a good start from row 4 and above all he completed a fantastic lap 1 which enabled him to put himself in the fifth position on crossing the finish for the first time in this finale. With the grip of a champion Juián gradually passed Terol Espargaró and Luthi who were ahead of him and eventually took over the lead to gradually escape towards victory. Nobody was able to compete with him except from Márquez who relentlessly chased him up an eventually passed him with only two laps to go. Simón launched an attack on the champion in the final lap but he nearly crashed because of the state of the track which forced him to put up with this amazing second spot in the finale.

60_Julián Simón (2º +1.256): “As you can imagine I am really happy. It´s a fantastic result and I think we did a great race. It´s a pity I didn’t get my very first win in Moto2 but I put up with the idea of having dominated the race over so many laps and that only a great champion such as Márquez eventually came out on top. I sincerely believe if it had rained a bit more and the track had been slightly wetter we would have had greater chances to win but this is not how it went. Actually as the track was drying off I started to experience issues with my front wheel perhaps because of my riding style. I must also confess that I really was under pressure at some points in the race. I led over many laps and realised I could win in front of my fans. It undoubtedly influenced me and maybe I was not as determined as Márquez was. Anyway I got this great result and the satisfaction to offer my team a great race because they really deserve it as much or even more than I do. They too suffered a lot during this season. I’d like to thank them all for all the work they have done and I wish them all the best. And now I want to celebrate this podium which tastes like glory to me and then set to work for the season to come”.
