Rins & Marquez continue with progress at Jerez Moto3 test
After yesterday’s downpours, today the Circuito de Jerez was blessed with radiant sunshine for Day 3 of the final preseason test.
Alex Rins and Alex Marquez continued to put in laps onboard their KTM bikes, putting in a full day’s work and placing second and sixth, respectively. Maverick Viñales topped the timesheets.
The sun heated up the track sufficiently to dry out the numerous puddles remaining from Tuesday, and the Repsol riders got back on track to continue with an intensive workload. Lap-by-lap they improved upon their times, with Rins eventually scoring a 1’46.689 and Marquez a 1’47.706.
Two further sessions take place tomorrow morning, with a combined run alongside the Moto2 field and a Moto3-only session closing the 2013 preseason.
Alex Rins – 1:46.689, 52 laps, 230 km.
“We started the day very well, clocking better times than monday very early on. As the hours went by, we kept up the pace and the feeling was good. In the afternoon we wanted to try out the bike in the hotter track temperatures, and it worked very well; the results were positive. At the end of the day, we can say that we achieved what we wanted: A fast lap time and a solid pace.”
Alex Marquez – 1:47.706, 68 laps, 301 km.
“I am very happy. Monday we took a step forward, and today we did the same again. We did a good job and I am feeling really good on the bike. Halfway through the day my times began to plateau a little, but in the end I lowered them again with a setup that I like and some fresh tyres. I think that we can still improve further, and tomorrow we will try to make the most of the little remaining track time”.
