Maverick Viñales leads the way in Texas
The debut of Team Calvo at the Circuit of the Americas could not have been better. Maverick Viñales is top of the time sheet after the first two practice sessions at this circuit that is completely new to everyone.
In the morning he was 2nd with a gap of just 9 thousands to the fastest rider, but in the afternoon the track conditions had improved and the rider of Team Calvo finished first with more than half a second advantage over the rider in second. At the end of the session he had a minor crash that didn’t do any damage. Maverick’s finger is much better and almost doesn’t cause him any pain any more when on the bike. The goal for tomorrow is to be in the first row of the starting grid.
His team mate Ana Carrasco has also been outstanding in her efforts in Austin and achieved an excellent 16th place. The young rider from Cehegín feels more and more comfortable on the bike and with the team and this shows in her results. Her hope for tomorrow is that she can achieve a similar place and get the best possible grid position possible for Sunday’s race.

We worked really well, felt very comfortable and it seems the finger doesn’t cause me much pain and lets us do our work. The track improved a lot for the second session, there was no grip in the morning. This track has got it all: fast sections, others are slow, climbs and drops. It’s all there. The first corner is a bit weird, it feels odd braking uphill. Just there I crashed but nothing happened. I hope I can further improve tomorrow. I am very happy with the work of the team.
Ana Carrasco #22 – 2’21’’361 – 16th / @AnaCarrasco_22
I’m very happy. In the first session it was a bit difficult, but I already knew it was going to be like that and that the more experienced riders would be quicker right from the start. But bit by bit we improved and in the second session we actually improved a lot and I think 16th is great. The track got a lot better, there was almost no grip in the morning, but it’s still not ideal. The bike is going really well and the team are doing an outstanding job. Now it’s down to me to find a little bit more tomorrow to be able to get a good grid position.

For the first day at a new circuit we’ve got some great results. Maverick did a great job and his finger almost doesn’t hurt anymore which is really good news. Ana really surprises the whole team with her massive progress, if she continues to work like that, she’ll bring us a lot of joy. Maverick’s aim is the front row of the grid and he wants to fight for the podium. With Ana we have to be realistic and not ask too much of her, her objective is still to keep learning and to enjoy the experience.
