Viñales again on front row, Carrasco unhappy with lack of grip
Team Calvo did a great job in Jerez with Maverick Viñales once again starting from the front row. The Catalan did a great qualifying session, working primarily on his race pace, hoping to improve on his two second places from Qatar and Texas. The competition is tough, but both the team and the rider believe they can challenge for victory.
Teammate Ana Carrasco, the only female rider in the world championship this season, had a difficult weekend so far, struggling with the setup of her KTM. Today she took another step forward and tomorrow in the warmup she hopes to find a solution for the problems to move up positions in the race in front of the thousands of Spanish fans who made the trip to the Jerez circuit.
Maverick Viñales – 1’47.145 – 2º “Very good, I’m happy because we are working a lot and I have a good feeling after the bad memories from the track during the preseason. Rins went very fast, but we did a different session, focusing more on the final laps of the race. The important thing today was to get on front row. Racing at home is always a bit of extra motivation, but you can’t overdo it. Tomorrow I have to focus and get a good result.”
Ana Carrasco – 1’49”092 – 24ª “I’m not very happy, because we continue to have grip problems and I can’t go as fast as I would like. The team is working very hard and tomorrow we will try some more things in the warmup to see if we can take a step forward ahead of the race, because I have a lot of problems under braking. But the most important is that I have a good race pace and tomorrow we can move a good bit forward. In the race I will give everything in front of the Spanish fans.”
