Maverick Viñales posted the 4th fastest time despite a spectacular crash that fortunately caused no injuries.
The Team Calvo rider returned to the track with used tyres and notably improved his lap times before the second session was interrupted by rain.

Ana Carrasco finished the sessions rather annoyed. The morning session was her first time riding the Le Mans circuit and in the afternoon she managed to improve her time by more than a second, and just as she was about to go back out on a new set of tyres, it started raining.

I’m well and the crash was only a bit of a scare. I entered the corner very fast, the tyres were quite spent and the bike skidded. But I’m quite happy because I went back out on these same used tyres, had a good pace and felt very comfortable on the bike. The only shame is that, just as we’d put on new tyres to try and improve the times, it started raining. But we’re calm, we need to find a good pace and work well.

I’m not very happy because we’d improved a lot from the first session to the second and just as we’d put new tyres on the bike it started to rain and I couldn’t improve my time any further. I think I could have gone quicker. The circuit is a bit strange, the truth is I don’t like it but I don’t dislike it either. If it rains we’ll have to try and adapt and go quick in the wet. But no matter what the weather, my aim is to be in the top 20 on the starting grid on Sunday.

It’s been a strange free practice with Maverick’s crash in the first few laps. But luckily he’s not done himself any harm and the team worked very well to get the bike repaired so he could go back out. He’s had a good pace and fourth place doesn’t reflect the great work Maverick’s done today. Ana is closer on this circuit time wise. Everyone is a little closer here, and this makes things a bit easier. But it is still difficult because Ana’s never ridden here in Le Mans before.
