Maverick Viñales increases championship lead with Le Mans victory
A great victory by Maverick Viñales and Team Calvo at the French GP in Le Mans has increased the championship lead of the Catalan rider to 13 points.
All the hard work that Maverick and the team did paid off today, and the weekend could not have gone better with pole position, fastest lap and the race win. The track conditions were not easy with several damp patches around the track, but Mack could tear away at the front to win the race.
Ana Carrasco also showed a great performance. She started from far back but was slowly able to pull back some positions and finished the race in 19th place, in front of a big number of riders and with a pace during the last few laps that was superior to the rider in 4th place.

I’m still not quite clear how the race panned out that well. We took a big risk by replicating yesterday’s dry setting and the first laps were really strange because the track was still quite wet but we were going very fast. When I saw that it started to dry off, I started to settle into my rhythm. In the end I gave everything I had and we achieved a great win. I’d like to give my thanks to the team, KTM and the sponsors because everything worked perfectly.

Today I am happy. At the start of the race I lost many positions because the track was really quite wet and I had no feeling on the bike. But I then started to recover those positions and found a good rhythm that allowed me to progress a bit further through the field. It’s a shame that, when I caught up to another rider who had been several second in front of me, I didn’t have much tyre left and couldn’t pass him. But I’m happy, one more race and some more valuable experience.

We’re very happy. Today we faced a difficult race with regards to the weather and track conditions. But Maverick did an incredible job and just controlled the race to perfection. I’d like to give my thanks to Calvo, JHK T-Shirt and also to KTM, because without their support we would not be leading the championship. Ana also delivered a spectacular performance. She fought the entire race to gain as many positions as she could and did very well.
