Moncayo quietly confident after decent pace in difficult practice conditions at Mugello
Mugello is one of the most beautiful rounds in the MotoGP calendar and one of the most difficult. It’s a track which has everything, a straight that’s more than a kilometre long, slow and fast corners, quick changes of direction at critical points.
Unfortunately conditions so far have not been the best. In the first Moto2 session the track was dry after some rain on Thursday and also on Friday morning and very cold with just 15° Celcius. Alberto Moncayo went out with confidence in his chances, posting some good laptimes and improving consistently, despite suffering a small crash.
Rain was forecast for today, but conditions stayed dry. In the second session in the afternoon the asphalt temperature rose to 29° Celcius, but the ambient temperature stayed down at 17° Celcius.
Alberto Moncayo #17 (29º, 1.56.764, +3,181s, 38 laps): “It went pretty good in the morning. In the first practice I felt very good riding with the setting from Le Mans. I got a good pace in difficult conditions, improving my times lap by lap. But I had a pretty silly crash, I wanted to push in my last lap and the tarmac was very cold. The important thing is that I wasn’t injured and the bike was okay as well. In the second session, in dry conditions, some problems surfaced. We’re working on it, but we struggle to get up to pace like this. I rode almost always on my own. Tomorrow we want to make some changes at the front, let’s see if the weather is good and we can do some comparisons.”
