Viñales focused after strong first day at Mugello
For this weekend, the bikes of Team Calvo riders Maverick Viñales and Ana Carrasco display a special livery in which the yellow of Nostromo, the group Calvo brand in Italy, plays a major role.
The first free practice session was held on a damp track, but without enough moisture to draw any conclusions. In the afternoon in the dry, Maverick fought until the last seconds. In the end he lost the fastest lap by 25 thousands of a second, but the Catalan rider remains calm and focused.
For Ana Carrasco the first day at this technical track has been a bit complicated. Even though she felt comfortable in the morning in damp conditions, it was hard for her in the afternoon to get close to the times of the fastest riders. She hopes to improve the setup of her KTM tomorrow to be able to have a good qualifying session.

It’s gone very well today. We’ve been working a lot with used tyres and therefore I’m happy. Mugello is a beautiful circuit that I like to ride and that I enjoyed from the very first time I went out on track. Having lost the fastest time isn’t something that concerns me a lot, at the end of the day it’s Sunday that counts and we plan to be at the top. There are small issues with sliding on the track, but the bike works really well and we’re working hard for the race.

This morning in the wet, we went well and we were fairly high up in the ranking, but this afternoon in the dry things changed completely. The bike isn’t perfect and there’s various things for us to work on to try and improve it, mainly the gear change and the suspensions. But I have full confidence in my team and surely we’ll find something tomorrow that will allow us to make a step forward. I like the circuit a lot but it’s a tricky one and it’s hard to go quick, you have to go full throttle.

It’s been a positive first day with Maverick going very fast this afternoon in the dry and also this morning when the track was neither dry nor really wet, which didn’t really help anyone. But it shows that he’s comfortable on a dry track and he’s been working a lot with used tyres and the race set up. Ana feels it’s more difficult. This is the most technical circuit of the championship, but surely this weekend will be another valuable lesson for her.
