Maverick Viñales retains title lead with another strong podium finish

The Italian GP wasn’t an easy race for Team Calvo’s Maverick Viñales. During the free practice sessions and qualifying he had displayed a very consistent rhythm and pace, somewhat superior to his rivals, but in today’s race he had a little problem with the engine of his bike and couldn’t generate the same top speed like in previous days.

KTM is already working together with Team Calvo to find the root of the problem. Despite everything, third place is a great result and Viñales stays in the lead with a four point advantage.

Ana Carrasco finished another race collecting valuable race experience. From the first day she knew this track was going to be difficult and this proved to be the case. But the young rider of Team Calvo is satisfied and looks forward to the next race at the circuit of Catalonia, a track which she knows well.

This third place feels like a win to me because we achieved more than we could have expected and it could have been a lot worse. We did some great work the whole weekend, we just couldn’t quite see it through to the end. We had a small problem today, in the third lap it felt like the engine lost power and I didn’t get the same feeling I had during the practice sessions. We stay top of the leader board, but the competition is equally as strong and we have to keep working race by race.

I finished another race and this one is very important because I gained a lot of experience at a very complicated circuit. All that’s missing now is a good set up to improve a couple of small things. We stick around for some testing on Tuesday and I hope that together with the team we can find something positive. The circuit is very technical and is always difficult for new riders. The next race will be at home, so there I hope to be able to make more progress.

I’m satisfied because achieving a third place in a race with such a difficult group is very important in Mugello. There was a problem with the engine and we need to find the cause and solve it, but we have to be happy with Maverick’s race. Ana completed a very difficult race and surely the things she learned here will be very useful in the coming races. I’d like to thank Calvo, Nostromo and JHK T-Shirt for all their support.
