Maverick Viñales & Ana Carrasco both looking forward to racing at “very special” Assen

This week the Moto3 World Championship arrives at the mystical circuit of Assen to hold the 7th race of the season.
For Team Calvo rider Maverick Viñales it’s a special place after winning the 125cc race in 2011 and the Moto3 race last year. Assen is the only circuit to remain in the race calendar since the FIM World Championship was established in 1949, and even though the track has undergone several modifications over the years, its essence, which made this track the Cathedral of motorcycle racing, is still very much alive.
For Ana Carrasco, Team Calvo’s second rider, it’ll all be new including racing on Saturday, but as always she’ll give her maximum to continue learning and fighting to try and bring home her first championship points.

I arrive here with much enthusiasm and physically in top form for the race. Assen is a very special circuit because of its history and it’s also a track that I like very much. The last part with the fast corners is one of my favourites. The past two years I did very well here, but we can’t rely on that and have to continue to work hard. I hope the weather is kind to us and hopefully we can achieve a good result.

As always I’m very much looking forward to the race. I’ve been told the circuit is very technical and difficult, not fast, not long but difficult at the beginning. To race at the oldest circuit of the championship is nice and it’s also different because the race is held on Saturday. I think I’m going to like this. In the past couple of races I was lacking a bit during Saturday’s qualifying but I hope in Assen on Friday I’ll do better and will get a good grid position.

It’s a lot of fun to race in the Cathedral of motorcycle racing, Assen is always a very special circuit. The track is very technical and Maverick has always been able to go fast, right from his first year in the championship. We just want to start working now and I believe, if the rain shows us a little respect, we can do very well and return to fight for the podium. For Ana it’ll be a new circuit once again, but I think it’ll suit her riding style very well.
