Maverick Viñales puts Team Calvo on the Moto3 podium again

The new podium finish at today’s race in Assen confirms Maverick Viñales’ second place in the fight for the Moto3 championship title.

The Team Calvo rider had a very intelligent race, stopping his rivals from tearing away to attack towards the end. Maverick was leading into the last lap, but in the last sector he couldn’t hold off Salom. This second place is very important for the championship which is still very open with 10 races to go.

Maverick’s team mate Ana Carrasco finished 29th after a couple of difficult laps after which she could not fight back like she would have liked to. But she has another race under her belt und had a great experience with her bike and her team.

Right after the finish I was a bit annoyed but that’s normal. To be honest I’m quite happy because we returned to the good form we had in Le Mans and Jerez, dominating much in the technical parts of the track and working hard with the team. But we have to keep progressing to try and keep our rivals at bay. I thought I could finish the last lap in first place but in the last sector Salom did very well. The championship is still long and 10 points are nothing. We have to continue like this, working very hard.

I’m not very happy. I liked this circuit right from the start, but even though we improved the setup every time we went out on track, once again we lost out during qualifying when we failed to qualify higher up. I also have to improve my first couple of laps, I need to find my rhythm quicker. But I have to draw out the positive, which is having finished one more race and gaining more experience. I hope in Germany we can improve a bit more and get a better result.

I’m happy because it’s very positive to finish on the podium and gain very valuable points. It was a spectacular and very nice race. We’re 10 points behind but the championship is still long and the most important is that Maverick is satisfied and happy with the work he and his team are doing. For Ana the weekend was difficult because of the weather conditions, but I know she still likes the circuit a lot, and from here we’ll see her take another step up in no time.
