Mugello, Catalunya, Assen… After visiting a series of long and fast tracks in recent weeks the final stop for the Moto2 World Championship before a hard-earned summer break is the shortest circuit on the entire calendar.

Sachsenring is a rollercoaster ride of dramatic elevation changes and tight corners, with hardly a flat metre to speak of around its 3.6km layout. It is a technical circuit – great fun for those riders who adapt to its demands and a nightmare for those who don’t.

In Moto2 the title chase is tightening up somewhat, Scott Redding maintaining a 30-point lead but with Pol Espargaró another step closer after his victory at Assen two weeks ago.

MAPFRE Aspar rider Nico Terol heads to Germany full of energy following an enjoyable visit to Argentina for a shakedown test at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit. After two disappointing races Nico is now ready to show the kind of form that saw him take victory in the second round of the season in Austin and second place at Mugello, as he looks to sign off for the summer on a high.

His team-mate Jordi Torres travels on the back of an excellent performance in the Dutch TT, where if it wasn’t for a mistake at the start he would surely have been fighting for a podium finish. Jordi did not race at Sachsenring last year but is confident that his good form can help him adapt quickly.

Nico Terol:
“The test in Argentina was a really good way for me to disconnect from racing. I really enjoyed myself riding there and the bike felt ‘mine’ again. I felt safe riding on the limit and it was important for us to get this feeling back in a test because the last two races have been much harder than we expected. I feel really calm about going to Germany now and I am looking forward to enjoying myself and getting the maximum possible return from the weekend. Sachsenring is a small and twisty track with some hard braking areas. It is not one of my favourite circuits but I am looking forward to getting there and hopefully experiencing the positive feeling we had with the bike in Argentina.”

Jordi Torres:
“We go into the German GP on a high after doing a good job in the last race in Holland. The race went well, it was just a shame that we didn’t do better at the start and over the first few laps because our race pace was very positive. We also need to work on being more decisive in qualifying to put us in a better position on the grid and avoid problems in the opening laps. I rode at Sachsenring in 2011 and I have good memories of it, we have a good base set-up for the bike now and we have to come out of this one with a good result so that we can go into the holidays with a good taste in our mouths and in the knowledge that we have done a good job.”
