Second row for Viñales at the Sachsenring
It’s so far not been an easy weekend for Team Calvo, but like Team Director Pablo Nieto says, there’s no reason to dramatise things either.
Maverick Viñales achieved the 6th fastest time and will start tomorrow’s race from the second row. His race pace is not bad, but together with the team, KTM and the technicians for WP suspensions he is, as always, working very hard so he can fight for a podium finish tomorrow and if possible a win. During the day the team has collected a lot of data and in tomorrow’s warm up they want to try a few changes on the bike to try and improve a few things.
Maverick’s team mate Ana Carrasco, has improved her quickest time from yesterday by almost half a second but this was not enough for her to climb up further in the ranking for tomorrow’s starting grid. Sachsenring is the smallest circuit of the championship and so are the differences between the riders. For Ana this meant a few tenths quicker could have put her a at least 3 rows further up the grid. Despite this, the rider from Cehegín hopes for a good race and more valuable experience.
#25 Maverick Viñales – 6th place – 1.27.694 / @maverickmack25
At the end we’ve not been able to put in a good lap because there was much traffic, but in general I’m satisfied because we found a couple of solutions that will help us improve the setup. In warm up we’ll have to work hard and close the gap. Overall we have to improve my feeling with the chassis, I don’t feel well, but myself and the team are doing our best to be ready for tomorrow.
#22 Ana Carrasco – 29th place – 1.28.924 / @AnaCarrasco_22
Like almost always on Saturdays I’m not happy with my position on the grid. We improved the times a lot compared to yesterday, but we don’t start from further at the front. I believe we’ve got a good pace, but the field is very close and everytime we’re out on track everyone else improves too. The start will be very important because this circuit is difficult for overtaking. The bike’s improved a bit and I still have a bit more to give, but even though the race seems difficult, I’ll always give my best.

This weekend has seemed to be a bit more difficult than normal, but I don’t think there’s too much cause for alarm. We’re less than 4 tenths behind and should not dramatise things. It’ll be a tough race, with many laps, and therefore we need to remain calm and focused. We’ll try to improve the bike a bit during warm up and will try to fight for the podium and if possible a win. Ana has had some good sessions and is a lot closer than normal, but everyone is really fast and it’ll be difficult.
