Nico Terol aims for more American success as Jordi Torres attempts to back up his debut victory with another top result

After a month-long summer break the Moto2 World Championship resumes this weekend as the second half of the 2013 season gets underway at Indianapolis. The time off has given the riders a vital opportunity to recharge their batteries ahead of a hectic few months ahead, which starts with three races in as many weekends, with the Czech Republic and British Grands Prix coming hot on the heels of Indy.

The MotoGP layout at the legendary American motor racing venue – home to the world famous Indy 500 – measures 4.216km and is a taxing challenge for the engineers and riders, with a mixture of corners and track surfaces to contend with. The intermediate category of world class motorcycle racing sees Pol Espargaró now 23 points behind Scott Redding at the top of the standings after reducing the gap in the last race in Germany.

Nico Terol heads to a circuit he has fond memories of having been a race winner at Indianapolis no less than three times (2008, 2010 and 2011, all in 125cc) and after winning the inaugural Moto2 race in Texas earlier this season it is certainly a country he loves to compete in.
Since that win at Circuit of the Americas the MAPFRE Aspar rider has come through a tough period that sees him seventh in the Moto2 standings on 58 points, determined to rediscover his best form during the second half of the championship.

Nico’s team-mate Jordi Torres is one place below him in the championship but level on points thanks to his first ever World Championship victory at the last round in Germany. The MAPFRE Aspar rookie has enjoyed his best ever summer holidays and is now determined to continue his challenge at the front of the pack.

Nico Terol:
“The summer break has provided a nice chance for me to recharge my batteries. I spent a few days just switching off and enjoying myself on the beach and did some water sports that I normally don’t get chance to do during the season. After a week I returned to my normal training plan to start preparing for Indianapolis. I have had some good sessions and I feel in peak fitness going into the next round. Indianapolis is a circuit I love and racing in the USA seems to be good to me so I will be pushing hard from the first session. We had a good feeling with the bike in Germany and it was only a technical problem that stopped us from coming away with a good result. I am sure we will put that right at Indianapolis.”

Jordi Torres:
“After the win in Germany and some well earned holidays we go to Indianapolis feeling more motivated than ever. Our confidence is sky high after we proved before the summer break that we can compete with the best in this class. The win at Sachsenring has removed any sort of inferiority complex I might have had and proved that dreams can be achieved through hard work. Even so we have to keep our feet on the ground, continue to work hard and keep the same mentality we have always had. Indianapolis is quite a difficult circuit because the surface is quite slippery at certain points and it is difficult to adapt to the different kinds of asphalt. I am sure our set-up can work well at Indianapolis and even though we have a lot of work to do we are looking forward to it.”
