Multiple crash leaves Moncayo without points after good race performance
Alberto Moncayo didn’t have luck on his side today, after showing an improved race performance he was left without any points as he couldn’t avoid Mike Di Meglio who crashed right in front of him, hitting the Frenchman lying on the ground and crashing out himself. Until then he was running at a good pace and with a points finish in sight after starting from 23rd position on the grid. He made up positions until he rode in 19th place, the constant battle in front of him making it easier to close in on the group. But with five laps still to go, Di Meglio lost control of his bike and highsided, causing a multiple crash including Moncayo
Alberto Moncayo #17 (DNF): “The best race of the year. The team would deserve it. Also myself and I could ride with the group, enjoying myself, fighting. Throughout the weekend we worked hard. In the warmup a modification to the fork helped me a lot. In the race I improved my laptimes and would have improved them even more if we hadn’t been disturbed. I didn’t want to join the battle in front, but when I prepared to do so, a succession of crashes reached me as well and I was on the ground. I stuck around with Mike to see if he was alright, I was very scared for him. A shame not to have finished, I could reach the points. We know we can be there, so I want to continue from here at Silverstone. The bike went well from beginning to end, the grip went away just a little bit, I think this shows the work we’ve been doing.”
