Maverick Viñales already broke the circuit record yesterday, but he said he could drop that time by another second. And that’s exactly what he did.

The Team Calvo rider flew across the Silverstone circuit setting yet another new record, which smashed the pole and fastest lap of last year’s Moto3 as well as the fastest lap ever set on the British circuit on a 125 bike. Tomorrow’s aim is to win the race, and Maverick feels cautiously optimistic.

His team mate Ana Carrasco finished the day on a bad note. The rider from Cehegín finished all the free practice session around position 20, but again, once the qualifying started, her rivals were able to outrace her. She’ll have to play catch up again in tomorrow’s race.

Yesterday I said that we could drop the time by another second, and in the end that’s what we did. The best thing about it is that I did it myself, without being towed by anyone. But we mustn’t relax. Tomorrow we’ll have to continue to work hard and not rely on our top spot because the competition is very strong and it’ll be difficult. The good thing is that we’ve got a good pace, the bike’s doing a great top speed, and that’s very noticeable compared to last year. The KTM is working really well. But we must not be over-confident.

I’m angry because everything was looking really good but once again we find ourselves further back than we should be. I believe we’ve got the bike set up very well and all weekend we’ve been performing well. At the beginning I posted a good time and I’m sure I could have improved it, but it wasn’t possible. The whole session I was caught up in much traffic and I couldn’t do anything. Tomorrow, I’ll once again have to spend the first couple of laps battling and overtaking riders in front of me who are slower, but I’m used to that by now.

We have to very happy with this pole position, the second of the season. It’s most important to always be on the front row, but to get pole is obviously better. This is a very wide circuit and with the pace that Maverick’s got, everything is looking very good. But I’m sure tomorrow’s race will be very hard and surely very tight. Ana has had a very good weekend and it’s a shame that she couldn’t find a fast lap during qualifying. The race will be similar to the one in Brno and I think she can fight to finish higher up.
