Maverick Viñales 5th and Ana Carrasco takes historic first points in Malaysia
The Malaysian GP was a bittersweet affair for Team Calvo. Maverick Viñales is fighting for the championship and it’s hard not being able to secure a podium finish today when he was fighting for it from the very first lap.
But Maverick and Team Calvo will continue to battle until the very last race, because until it’s mathematically not possible to win the title, nothing is lost yet.
But without a doubt, this GP will be remembered for some time to come because Ana Carrasco made history.
The Team Calvo rider crossed the finish line in 15th place and this made her the first Spanish woman to achieve a result in the points. All the hard work over the season has finally paid off, and Ana and the team are very keen to repeat this success in the following races.
#25 Maverick Viñales – 5th place / @maverickmack25
It’s been a very difficult race, especially those last few laps. We couldn’t catch up to the front riders that comfortably and everything was really tight. I tried everything I could to catch them but I struggled a lot, and even though I tried my best it wasn’t possible. We’ve got a good setup and the team worked very well all weekend. The championship got a bit more complicated, but our aim is to continue to give everything in the next races and not look back. Because until Valencia, everything is possible.
#22 Ana Carrasco – 15th place / @AnaCarrasco_22
I think I had a very good race and I’m very happy. At the beginning I struggled a bit, I saw lots of crashes and I preferred to take it a little easy to start with. It was a bit difficult to make up the positions I lost, but with about 6 laps to go I was top of the group of riders I was in. In the end I got overtaken by one of them during the last lap, but I achieved my first point in the championship. This was my aim and I’m super happy. Now we have to continue working just as hard and make this the first of many points.

This was probably the most difficult race we’ve had so far this season, and one has to say that getting on the podium at all races is pretty much impossible. But we have to look ahead and remain positive because it is still possible to win the title. With regards to Ana, I’d like to congratulate her on her great race and also on getting her first championship point. She really deserves it because she’s been working so hard all year and the fact that she’s the first Spanish woman to achieve this, is a great honour for Team Calvo.
