Salom and Vinales start well-deserved winter break after final postseason test in Almeria
The Pons Moto2 Team concluded the 2013 season after two days of testing in Almeria with the new riders Vinales and Salom, with Vinales finishing the test with the fastest laptime.
Both Viñales and Salom continued their adaptation process to the new class in which they will have their debut on 23rd of March in Losail. They used the test to get more laps under their belts and gain more experience with the Kalex bike before the testing ban started, with no more testing allowed in December and January.
With this a historic season for the Tuenti HP 40 comes to a close, after taking the title with Pol Espargaró and third place with Tito Rabat and winning the team championship. The Pons riders achieved spectacular results, racking up a further nine victories, eight pole positions and a total of 17 podium finishes.
Maverick Viñales: “I am very happy about the performance with the new bike. Every day I feel more comfortable and I have a lot of fun riding it. We are working very well with the team and found a lot of improvements. Every time I feel faster. Now we can’t test anymore until February, so we will continue working hard on the physical preparation to arrive on point for the next test.”
Luis Salom: “I struggled a bit to go fast aand I had problems with chattering. I am being helped a lot in this team and every time I feel better on the bike. Now we have a period of time in which we can’t test with the Kalex, so we will focus on the physical preparation to adapt my body to the new class.”
