Although it always seems as if the preseason is eternal, the testing period is as frenetic as ever, and in just two weeks the Moto2 and Moto3 riders will have completed six days of work. Only last Thursday they left Valencia and yesterday the action began once more in Jerez for three more days of intense tests.

Conditions today were much better than yesterday, with mild temperatures and a perfect track, although the lap times were not significantly better and Thomas Luthi was able to finish with the fastest effort of the day.

MAPFRE Aspar riders Jordi Torres and Nico Terol completed no fewer than 87 and 84 laps respectively as they racked up crucial kilometres to continue their preseason development programme.

Torres worked mainly on trying set-up solutions aimed at finding more grip in corner exit and he stayed out on track until it closed, finishing with a best lap of 1’43.663.

His team-mate was just six thousandths of a second slower with his best lap as he worked mainly on improving front end stability. Both riders were satisfied with their day’s work.

19th Jordi Torres 1.43.663 (87 laps):
“We started the day carefully and gradually built a feeling with the bike before trying some different rear end settings aimed at improving traction and handling. A few things cropped up as the day progressed that we had to iron out and even though we didn’t go as fast as the boys at the top we were consistent. The objective today was to gather as much information as we could before the start of the season without worrying about the lap times.”

21st Nico Terol 1.43.669 (84 laps):
“Today went better than yesterday, I had a good feeling for the bike and felt more confident with the front end. We didn’t manage to put a fast lap together at the end of the day but I am happy with the amount of work we have done and with the fact that the front suspension now feels how I want it to feel, which is similar to last season. We have to keep working, that’s what testing is for, and make sure we are as ready as we can before that first race. We have improved the stability of the bike today but we need to keep moving forward.”
