At the exclusive Ascari race resort near Ronda in the south of Spain Ana Carrasco unfolded her plans for the 2014 season. The young Spanish rider of RW Racing GP – she turns 17 tomorrow – hopes to be in the top 15 in as many races as possible. “I know it will be difficult, especially in the first few races, but I will try as hard as I can.”

Last year almost all the tracks were new to Carrasco, except for the four Spanish tracks. Now that she has raced for a season, it will be easier, she thinks. “Last year in Qatar I had problems in the free practices and ended the race in 20th position. Hopefully I can get closer to the points now.” Still she is happy with four races in Spain. Carrasco is extremely popular in her home country. “I consider that an honour and a motivation, not a pressure.”

At the Andalusian Ascari race track, owned by Dutchman Klaas Zwart, and in the presence of the mayor from her home town Murcia, Carrasco saw her Kalex KTM in the new color scheme for the first time and really liked it. “The pink lines are awesome!” The girl had to get used to the bike and her new team in the first tests of the preseason but now that everything has felt into place she hopes she will go faster in the final test, starting Tuesday in Jerez. “The preparation was good, but I am never satisfied. It can always go faster.”

Team owner Roelof Waninge thanked the Ascari race resort for hosting Carrasco’s presentation. “It is impressive to see how popular Ana is in Spain. It hasn’t been easy over the winter to get the package and the riders we wanted and we are very happy with Ana in our team. We have high expectations and will do our very best to reach the goals we and Ana have.”
