Isaac Viñales leaves Texas empty-handed, but ready to regain form
The outcome of Sunday’s race makes Team Calvo leave Austin and the Circuit of the Americas with a bittersweet taste in the mouth.
There’s obviously much satisfaction in the team about Jakub Kornfeil’s fifth place, but at the same time the crash of Isaac Viñales, riding in eighth place at the time, dampens the joy considerably.
Isaac’s tumble meant the end of the race for him. Brazilian rider Eric Granado finished in eighteenth place, which wasn’t what he had in mind for the weekend but was the best achievable result after his two crashes on Saturday.
#32 Isaac Viñales – DNF
“We tried all we could, but right from the start I could tell that the bike wasn’t perfect. I braked and I could feel the front locking up. I’d had a wobble earlier but this time I couldn’t save it. It’s a shame I worked so much with my team to have a good race setup and we had a lot of hope to perform well here. We now have to work even harder for the next race. We have to regain the good feeling we had during the preseason and I know that together we can do it.”
