Team Calvo rider Isaac Viñales looked set to be at the top end of the leader board for qualifying at Rio Hond, after displaying a great performance during the free practice sessions, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to show his full potential due to tyre woes, and starts the race from 18th on the grid.

Nonetheless Viñales and Team Calvo are both optimistic that he can regain positions during the race.

“This was a bad qualifying but we have to take the positive fact from it that the race pace is good and I believe that this will help me make up positions. We’re not entirely sure what went wrong but we couldn’t really make the new tyres work properly, I wasn’t able to get a good lap in and the times just weren’t good enough. In the morning I went fast on used tyres. So I hope to get a good start to the race and then I’ll push hard, let’s see what we can achieve.”
