Ana Carrasco happy with progress but not with qualifying position

Feelings were mixed in RW Racing GP’s garage after the qualifying session for the Spanish Grand Prix. Ana Carrasco improved with two seconds again and was on the move for more, but was hindered in her fastest lap that promised to bring her at least two rows further to the front.

Both Ana and teammate Scott Deroue ran a good qualifying session with consistently good lap times. Both made it to the top of the average speed rankings. And both improved their times dramatically, despite the heat (ground temperature 43 degrees Celsius at the start of the session and increasing to 46 in the end). With pole sitter Jack Miller taken out of account – he was over half a second faster than number 2 – the gap to the front runners was reduced.

So, plenty of positive sides. “But of course it’s the positions that count and those are disappointing”, RW Racing GP team manager Jarno Janssen admits. “I expect a very though and eventful race, with a number of crashes. The high temperatures cause trouble and tire choice will be a gamble: the medium compound will not last until the end, but the harder compound doesn’t give enough feeling. Besides that there are a number of riders surrounding Scott and Ana who will desperately want to go to the front. The first few laps in particular will be hectic. It’s going to be a toss-up anyway.”

“I am starting to feel better on the bike. Being that much faster than yesterday is a good achievement and I am happy with that. But I could have been faster if I hadn’t been hindered by Eric Granado in my flying lap. That’s a real pity.”
