The qualifying session of the Jerez GP was held this afternoon, with intense heat to content with during the tuning work in the pits ahead of the race on Sunday morning. A day that has been very difficult for the Avintia Racing riders, especially for Héctor Barberá.

The Valencian rider had technical problems with his bike during the last free practice session, which also influenced his participation in QP1, the first of two qualifying sessions. This diminished his chances of a good grid position, and that after displaying a good performance in the first three sessions.

Despite having to start from the last row, Barberá is confident to have a good race.

Héctor Barberá
“We now have two completely different bike setups, a risky bet, because if the one we are using fails, we have to risk our necks with the other. And there is a good chance that this could happen. We had a gearbox problem at the beginning of FP4 and I was barely able to ride, the bike stopped mid- track. Also the generator that charges the battery broke. We were able to bring the bike back to the box in time, changed everything, but when opening the gas there was an electronic failure. So with seven minutes to go we had to use the other bike, which, as I had already seen before, doesn’t work well here in Jerez. I tried to do my best, but it was impossible to ride well.
Solving this until tomorrow might be possible. I rode 40.2 in the morning and in the afternoon, with all these problems, a 41.2. So, despite the grid position, we can have a good race. Clearly, we are far from the other riders, our bike still lacks a lot. With this in mind, the test on Monday will be very important.”
