Jerez delivers best qualifying of the season by Ricky Cardus
The Tech 3 Racing Moto2 team celebrated a fantastic double coup in qualifying today with Ricky Cardus securing and teammate Marcel Schrotter gaining hard fought qualifying positions inside the top 15 for tomorrow’s 26-lap race in Jerez.
The weekend has been a testing one so far due to the severely high track temperatures, which exceeded 50° degrees for both days so far.
Ricky Cardus also completed a positive qualifying session around the 4332-metre circuit and will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix from 14th position, after finishing with a time of 1.43,648 and only a second from the top of the timesheet.
The Spanish rider, who has been running impressively in the Moto2 class for the Tech3 Racing Team over the first four races, hopes to once again collect world championship points as he continues to replace the recovering Alex Mariñelarena.

“Today was the best qualifying position I have had on the Mistral, but I feel that I could have been a bit faster. This track is not an easy one for me, and I was not too confident with the feeling of the front of the bike. However, I am certain that an improvement can be made during the race and that I am able to achieve a good result for the team. Once again, I want to thank them, as every practice session they have encouraged me to go faster and have really given me a lot of confidence. Tomorrow will be a difficult race, but the main thing I want to do is to enjoy it and score some points.”
