The Tech3 Racing Team experienced a day of mixed emotions in Jerez today as Ricky Cardus scored a hard fought ride to 13th in very hot conditions at the Circuito de Jerez today whilst teammate Marcel Schrotter unfortunately fell during lap 9 after both riders performed strongly in the free practice sessions and qualifying.

For Ricky Cardus, who had to face the Spanish Grand Prix from the 14th position on the grid, things did not start according to plan when he was shuffled back to 20th place at the beginning of the race.

However, he remained resolute and set into a competitive rhythm as he bravely picked his way through the field during the exceptional heat in Andalucia. He consistently recovered five places before becoming entangled in a thrilling battle with several riders in the latter half of the race, for 12th position.

The Spanish rider’s impressive ascend up the field eventually finished in 13th, as he scored his third point scoring result for the Tech3 Racing Team in the fourth race of the season.

Ricky Cardus – Race : 13th – Championship : 15th – Points : 13
“It was a difficult race due to the conditions as it was very hot and tiring. At Jerez it is hard for us riders as it is a very fast paced track, and there are always a lot of groups close together. Today my objective for the race was to finish inside the top 15 and collect points, which I did, so I can be happy. Therefore I’m now full of confidence for Le Mans, as I like the track. Once again I don’t want to miss the opportunity to say thank you to the team and Herve, as all weekend they have pushed me and given me a really good explanation of the data for me to understand. This weekend I focused especially on qualifying day but after losing quite a few positions at the opening stages of the race, this work did not pay off. I intend to do the same in Le Mans, and the aim is to improve my final position after having a strong start.”
