Juanfran Guevara within a second of fastest time on Le Mans day one

The fifth round of the Moto3 World Championship kicked off this morning under bright skies but with fairly cool temperatures (between fifteen and twenty degrees) at Le Mans.

However, the conditions were a welcome surprise at the French circuit, which regularly welcomes the paddock with mist and rain, and the minor category riders were able to enjoy a fast and competitive day on track.

In fact, the fastest lap – set by Alex Marquez – was three tenths quicker than the best lap here last year and (1.43.696) almost six tenths inside the circuit record (1.43.916).

Juanfran Guevara finished the first day in France as the nineteenth fastest rider in the Moto3 class but within a second of the fastest time.

The MAPFRE Aspar youngster and his crew have made some drastic changes to his set-up for this race as they look to rediscover the front-end confidence that he has been lacking in the last couple of rounds.

The results came quickly and after clocking his fastest lap with his penultimate effort of the day Guevara is looking forward to making more improvements tomorrow.

19th Juanfran Guevara 1.44.378 (34 laps):
“We made quite a big change to the set-up of the bike this morning in comparison to the past two races. We used the information we had built up over the winter and during the first round of the season because for the last couple of rounds I have not felt comfortable with the front end. It was hard to draw any conclusions this morning because the conditions were quite cold but in the afternoon it felt better straight away, especially under hard braking. It is a while since I have felt so secure on the brakes so I think we are on the right path. Maybe we could have done with a bit more rear grip but we have two sessions tomorrow to do that and to improve our corner speed through certain sections.”
