Young Spanish rider Ricky Cardus, produced an excellent performance today in Le Mans to claim his best ever qualifying position in Moto2 and will begin the fifth round from 8th on the grid.

With sunny weather shining down on the 4185 metre French circuit causing track temperatures to creep up to 45°, Cardus proceeded to comfortably fight for the positions at the top of the time sheets for the duration of the qualifying session, before setting a final lap time of 1.37,929, which was faster than the Moto2 pole time from last year by over half a second.

The Spanish rider, who is currently replacing the injured Alex Mariñelarena, has performed notably aboard the Tech3 Racing Team’s self designed and built Mistral 610 this season and was a mere three tenths of a second behind the leading bike.

Cardus optimistically looks towards tomorrow’s 26-lap sprint, where he hopes to charge to a top ten result at the team’s home track.

Ricky Cardus – 8th – 1.37,929:
“I am very pleased with my qualifying performance today, as it was the best result of my career. The bike felt better and improved with every session. A big positive of the Mistral is that it feels very comfortable over many laps and I was able to produce some consistently quick times, which gives me great confidence for my race pace tomorrow. My final qualifying time was only 3 tenths of a second from first place which is a big boost for my morale, but of course the most important day is Sunday. The opening laps will be vital to get a competitive result for the team and I think from third row I will have a promising position. I also want to say thank you to the team and the sponsors, because they support me in the best possible way to allow me to perform well on track.”
