It was a difficult Sunday for the Avintia Racing team, who had an overall difficult weekend from a sporting perspective.

Héctor Barberá suffered a setback with an electronic failure which provoked his crash early in the session. A tough finish to a weekend full of hard work, which will be continued in a private team test at the circuit of Aragón next week.

It’ll be an important two-day test to try out all the new parts which arrived mainly within the first couple of weeks of this championship. They contain for example some improvements for the electronics, which will hopefully already bring improvements for the next GP, held at the circuit of Mugello at the end of May.

#8 Héctor Barberá DNF
I can’t really say much. We tried everything, and things just didn’t work out. This time the electronic problems returned during the race. On the back straight the bike stalled when I hit fifth gear. Up to that moment it was going fairly well. When the bike started showing signs of this defect and started something like banging, I automatically pulled the clutch to see if it would regain grip. I slowly released the clutch after being last and I crossed the line. But when I got to the end of the straight, I lost power and the bike stalled. It’s impossible to turn these bikes without engine brake because of the weight, so as soon as I went on the brakes, the wheels locked.
The main problem is that the bike vibrates. Our starting point wasn’t bad, and the bike isn’t bad, but it’s just not like any of the prototypes. The truth is, where we are at the moment, I can only really compete against the PBM or the ART, and normally I can finish ahead of them. We’re far down the order and this doesn’t help to achieve our objectives. So every session is very important to us, it’s another opportunity for us to test the bike, just like the test we’ll have in Aragón in one week’s time.
