Rain affects day one progress for Isaac Viñales at Mugello

The first day of free practice sessions of the Italian GP was marked by rain. In the morning the sky was very cloudy but the session could still be held in dry conditions, though a broken engine on his KTM almost meant that Isaac Viñales wasn’t able to ride.

But this didn’t stop the Spaniard improving his time in the afternoon to within three tenths of the fastest. In the end, due to the rain, he couldn’t quite try how much more would have been possible and couldn’t improve his time further.

Like in previous years, the Team Calvo riders will sport the yellow colour of Nostromo, the Group Calvo brand in Italy.

“The truth is that I’m fairly satisfied with the second session. In the first I almost couldn’t ride because the engine broke, but the second one I finished three tenths behind the fastest. Also, just as we were about to put new tyres on to try and drop the times further, it started to rain. So overall I’m quite happy. We have to continue work on the setup because we’re a bit behind, but overall, given this morning’s problems, the day’s gone really well.”
