Luis Salom qualifies 6th on Mugello Moto2 grid, Maverick Viñales 16th
Luis Salom will start from the second row of the grid in the Italian GP tomorrow.
The Pons HP 40 rider from Mallorca posted the sixth quickest time during today’s qualifying in Mugello. Salom, who has been amongst the fastest riders all weekend, secured himself a starting position in row two of the grid with his time.
He has been very consistent in all sessions and found a good pace which allows him to tackle tomorrow’s race, scheduled for 21 laps, with much confidence.
Maverick Viñales on the other hand has been struggling all weekend and was not able to find a setup that makes him feel confident on his Kalex.
Maverick will use tomorrow’s warm-up, the last session before the start of the race, to try and improve the feeling with his bike and go into the race with more confidence.
Luis Salom – 6th place – 1.53.162
I like this track a lot. It’s a difficult circuit and the slipstream helps a lot. Despite not being able to catch and make use of one during the entire session, we did a very good job and I was always at the front. The pace has been very good and we’ll see what will happen tomorrow. The race will be difficult. We have to try and go at the maximum right from the start and then just see how the race pans out.
Maverick Viñales – 16th place – 1.53.665
I haven’t been able to get comfortable on the bike. In Moto2 you have to have everything just right, if that’s not the case you have a problem. We have to work hard this evening to find a setting that will allow me to ride more like I want to and therefore will allow me to improve my times.
