Impressive comeback by Efren Vazquez at Mugello

SAXOPRINT RTG rider Efren Vazquez had a very good race start – unfortunately a few hundredths too early. He jumped the start and had to pass through pitlane as punishment. This was all the more frustrating as it was clearly visible that he could have been fighting right at the top.

He re-joined the race in thirty-third position but his unmatched desire to win carried him through the field in an exceptional manner and hi finished the race in twelfth place. This begs the question what would have been possible had it not been for this unfortunate mistake at the start.

It was nonetheless a great effort by the riders and also the team’s mechanics, who delivered a great job solving the setup issues of the previous days. It is very unfortunate that their efforts could not bring the desired results today.

But that’s racing and the team will focus on the upcoming race in Barcelona.

First of all I have to say sorry to my team for my mistake. It is the first time in my career that I had a false start. I am so angry with myself and am incredibly disappointed. I would have been able to ride for the podium again. I had hoped for much more. I gave everything in order to at least earn points. Now I look forward to Barcelona. I rode really well there last year.
