Isaac Viñales takes second for Team Calvo at the Italian GP

It was a great race by Isaac Viñales in Mugello, achieving a fantastic second place after starting from position twelve on the grid. The Spaniard mad e a fantastic comeback and once he had reached the leading group of riders, he fought for victory until the very last corner.

In Mugello the slipstream is very important and leading going onto the straight doesn’t guarantee the win. Isaac Had followed the plan worked out by him and the team very well, but he couldn’t stop Romano Fenati overtaking him on the line.

The result made this race one of the tightest in history, with just ten thousandths between the first three riders.

“We tried to try and make an intelligent race and I believe that’s what we’ve done. We just missed out by a tiny bit. But we had spoken about this in the team beforehand, whoever is in second or third place coming out of the final corner is likely to win the race. We missed out by very little, but we followed the plan. The important thing is that we’re on the podium again. The race was really good, I loved the battles and enjoyed it much more than a race where I’m riding on my own. It’s been a long race but I was well prepared. Two podium finished in a row, I want to continue this run at my home race in Barcelona.”
