With the Dutch TT being the only race on the MotoGP calendar to take place on a Saturday, today saw the action get underway on track with the first free practice sessions.

Despite the threat of clouds hanging over the legendary track the conditions today could not have been better today and the lap times proved it, with Bastianini already dipping inside the circuit record after a battle with Rins, Oliveira, Fenati, Márquez and Miller.

MAPFRE Aspar rider Juanfran Guevara hadn’t even completed a single lap before he was forced to return to the pits with an engine problem.

For safety reasons he had to sit out the rest of the session whilst the team worked on his bike but in the afternoon he was able to make the most of a productive second session, and despite his lowly position in today’s classification he is happy with the information he gathered and confident of making major improvements when the action resumes tomorrow.

30th Juanfran Guevara 1.44.841 (17 laps):
“We had a mechanical problem at the start of the first session this morning and lost the whole practice, so we worked to make up for lost time this afternoon. We tried a new set-up with a different steering angle on the front, playing around with the wheelbase to try and find the way forward for the rest of the weekend. Even though the position is quite far back we have had a productive afternoon and gathered a lot of information. This evening we will have a close look at the telemetry and I am sure we will take a big step forward tomorrow.”
