The rain played a key role during today’s qualifying session at the Circuit of Assen.

The session, which decided tomorrow’s starting grid, started on a wet track, and just as it had dried off, it started to rain again. For the last fifteen minutes everyone was out on slicks to try and find that one fast lap.

Isaac Viñales tried his best to secure a position within the first two rows of the grid. In the end he couldn’t achieve this objective but the Team Calvo rider is confident that tomorrow he’ll be able to have a great race.

He’s got a good pace and the bike is set up the way he wants to and surely he can fight for the top positions within the leading group.

“It’s been a strange qualifying session but positive for us. In the morning we tried a setting on the KTM that I didn’t like much, so in the afternoon we went back to yesterday’s setup and immediately I was a lot faster. With the new tyre we did a 42.5 without the aid of a slipstream. I think this is very good because with a slipstream you can easily drop your time by half a second. But the most important thing is that we’ve got a great setup and a good pace for tomorrow. If it rains, well, that’ll be the same for everyone. And if not, we’ve got the bike where it needs to be so I’m ready to battle.”
