Cautious start to Brno weekend for Jordi Torres & Nico Terol
Like their MotoGP contemporaries the Moto2 riders today had to contend with one dry and one wet session at Brno. Even though the track began to dry during the second session the conditions were still not favourable and the lap times did not reach the same pace as the morning.
A host of wet specialists came to the fore in the afternoon but the final five minutes saw a return to the usual order, with title contender Mika Kallio leading the way from current series leader Tito Rabat and Dominique Aegerter.
Both MAPFRE Aspar riders set their best times in the morning session, preferring to exercise caution in the afternoon on the unpredictable track surface.
Both Jordi Torres and Nico Terol tried to put together a consistent rhythm as they focused on different areas of set-up, the Catalan continuing work on his new chassis as he tries to gain more mid-corner speed, whilst the Valencian had some chatter issues to solve.
Torres finished the day as the fifteenth fastest rider on track, with Terol in nineteenth place.
15th Jordi Torres 2.03.901 (34 laps):
“The intention this morning was to build a rhythm and find the feeling for the front that we have been lacking in the fast corners. This circuit is very wide so you need to work hard on your corner speed and exit. We had some chatter to deal with this morning but we made a change that had a positive effect. We are doing some good work with the new chassis but it is still in the early stages and we have a lot of work still do to with it to maximise performance.”
19th Nico Terol 2.04.471 (37 laps):
“In the first session I focused on building a consistent rhythm and gradually improving my pace. It was the right approach and I felt comfortable on the bike, which is important right now even though we have work to do to close the gap to the top. We had some chatter that we need to solve tomorrow. The afternoon session was a little strange because the track was damp. I could have done with a faster lap but I am still satisfied with the work we did today and with the consistent pace we set throughout.”
