Jordi Torres & Nico Terol suffer from grip & chatter issues at Brno
After a fantastic Moto3 race, it was difficult for the Moto2 contest to reach the same level of excitement. What followed was a dominant race from Tito Rabat to take the win in the intermediate class, when a more even battle had been expected due to the close lap times in practice.
Rabat broke away from pole position, established a gap of nearly half a second on his opening lap, then set a series of fast times through to the chequered flag. Mika Kallio also attacked with a fast lap, but his response was late.
Behind him, Sandro Cortese rode alone for third place to complete the podium. The most interesting fight starred Thomas Luthi and Domnique Aegerter for fourth place.
Fortunately for the MAPFRE Aspar riders, the Czech Republic round is now over and they can concentrate on the next race of the season in Great Britain.
Both Jordi Torres and Nico Terol experienced a weekend of problems in which they suffered more than necessary to setup their bikes.
Despite carrying out productive work during the warmup session, in the race they were again affected by chattering and a lack of grip which prevented them from performing at their best.
Torres finished in eighteenth position and Terol in twenty-fifth.
18th Jordi Torres:
“I started quite well, but upon arrival at the first corner I noticed that something was wrong. I felt a lot of chatter on the rear and each time I released the clutch the bike behaved in a very reactive way. The rear wheel was bouncing a lot. I tried to adapt to this situation and that made me lose concentration. I had to play around with the clutch a lot to keep the bike from shaking me off. Halfway through the race I tried to gain positions, but I almost crashed on a couple of occasions. So in the end I focused on finishing the race however possible.”
25th Nico Terol:
“This morning we recovered a decent feeling during the warmup session, and I could enjoy myself a little when riding. Then, just as the race started, the first corner was disastrous. I was taken off the track and almost crashed. On the following corner two riders fell in front of me and I also lost a lot of time. Fortunately after that first lap I managed focus and set a consistent pace, much better than yesterday.”
