Maverick Viñales achieved the eighth fastest time this afternoon at the Silverstone circuit in Qualifying for Moto2.

This means he will start tomorrow’s race from row three of the grid. His teammate in the Páginas Amarillas HP 40, Luis Salom, will start from 16th place on row six of the grid.

Viñales had some very good practices this weekend and despite this today’s qualifying didn’t go as expected. But he remains confident about tomorrow’s race and has his mind set on a podium finish.

His companion Salom, who missed yesterday afternoon’s session as a consequence of a crash he suffered in the third lap, made the most of today’s two sessions and continued work on the setup of his Kalex.

The Majorcan rider likes the Silverstone circuit and hope he’ll be able to claw back positions throughout the race and finish on the steps of the podium.

Maverick Viñales – 8th place – 2.08.055
“I’m content. We have room for improving further. It’s a shame because at the end of the session the gearbox played up and that stopped me from improving. We’re going very well on hard tyres and we always have the race in mind. Tomorrow we have warm-up to improve a bit more and break the 2.08 barrier.”

Luis Salom – 16th place – 2.08.424
“I lost the second session yesterday because I crashed on the third lap and destroyed the bike. I’d like to thank the team who did a fantastic job all through the night. Unfortunately I noticed that missing practice today. It’s a shame because I think I could have gone a lot quicker. Tomorrow there will be different groups of riders in the race and I need a strong start otherwise the race will be very difficult.”
