Maverick Viñales secured another podium finish and more championship points today with a spectacular race at the Silverstone circuit.

The Páginas Amarillas HP 40 rider crowed the great weekend he’s been having since the first session on Friday with a third place finish. Maverick had a good start from eighth position and he tried to get to the front of the group, but he missed a gear and could only narrowly avoid a crash.

He lost almost two seconds to the rider in front of him. Viñales started the fight to get back to the top and set the fastest lap. The remainer of the race was a continuous battle between himself, Zarco, Kallio and Rabat for the top positions.

On the last lap, racing in third position, Maverick could not find a gap to overtake the two riders in front of him and he had to settle for third place.

His teammate got hit by another rider on the first lap and ran off track, being relegated to 28th position. He managed to stage a great comeback to finish in 19th place, ending a weekend which was rather complicated for him with the crash on Friday costing him one practice session.

Maverick Viñales – 3rd place
I think we’ve had a very good race. I felt very strong out on track and we have to be satisfied with the result. We had a strong pace and I’m happy because we had a good weekend. After the race in Brnp we regained a lot of confidence. I’d like to congratulate the team who worked really well and really hard and who gave me a very fast bike. I’m convinced that in Misano we can have another good weekend.

Luis Salom – 19th place
This race has been a disaster, just like the previous six. I got hit on the first lap and ended up in the very last place. I had to claw back as many positions as I could, but I couldn’t do any better than 19th.
